उन्होंने दुखांत, सुखांत, मजाकिया—हर तरह के नाटक किए। उनके प्रसिद्ध नाटकों में ‘द कॉमेडी ऑफ एरर’,‘ रोमियो एंड जूलियट’, ‘द मर्चेंट ऑफ वेनिस’, ‘एज यू लाइक इट’, ‘हैमलेट’, ‘जूलियस सीजर’ इत्यादि शामिल हैं।
आज लगभग 400 साल बाद भी उनके नाटकों के प्रति लोगों का जुनून बरकरार है। प्रस्तुत जीवनी उन्हीं महान् नाटककार के जीवन की घटनाओं से हमें परिचित कराती है।
