Women in Love by DH Lawrence

SKU: 9788184306285

First published in the year 1920, the present novel ‘Women in Love’ was written by DH Lawrence. It is a sequel to his earlier novel The Rainbow (1915), and follows the continuing loves and lives of the Brangwen sisters, Gudrun and Ursula. Gudrun Brangwen, an artist, pursues a destructive relationship with Gerald Crich, an industrialist. Lawrence contrasts this pair with the love that develops between Ursula Brangwen and Rupert Birkin, an alienated intellectual who articulates many opinions associated with the author. The emotional relationships thus established are given further depth and tension by an intense psychological and physical attraction between Gerald and Rupert.

Amar Chitra Katha brings you the stories of the 15 women of the Constituent Assembly, who broke all barriers of tradition and social norms. They fearlessly fought for the rights of women, children and the marginalised people of our society, so that their safety and wellbeing would be assured in the constitution. They argued and debated and stood shoulder to shoulder with the men as our nation went through this momentous transformation. These icons proved that there is nothing that can keep a woman from achieving her destiny. They will remain inspirations for generations to come.

Christianity introduced a new moral epoch in the course of human history. Its effect was necessarily transforming upon those who came under its sway. Being cosmopolitan in its nature, we have now to study woman as being somewhat dissociated from racial type and national manner, and we shall seek to ascertain how she met and was modified by Christian conditions. These had a larger effect upon her life than upon that of man; for, by its nature, Christianity gave an opening for the higher possibilities of her being of which the old religions took little account. In the realm of the spiritual, it, for the first time, assented to her equality with man. That the women of the first Christian centuries submitted themselves to the influence of that religion in a varying degree, the following pages will abundantly show.

“Women of History is a further development of the idea which suggested the companion volume, Men of History, viz.: “To exhibit views of the world’s great men and women, as set forth in the best words of the best authors—to convey, as it were, at once impressions of History and Literature, and lessons in Biography and Style.” -Preface
