Fix Your Problem – The Tenali Raman Way (Kannada)
The book is a marvellous treasury of legends of Tenali Raman and Emperor Raya which evokes a long lost, never-never land: an enchanted world of alert wits and tricky gossips; crafty crooks with biting tongues, valiant brigands and an assorted cluster of uncommon common people. Each story is followed by terse moral and incalculable snippets which are usually that little extra that brings the reader a little more closer to his goal on the way to realisation. Every story purveys a pithy folk wisdom that triumphs over all trials and tribulations. The book also exposes how richly endowed Bharata Khanda (India before invasions) had been in the east in the field of wisdom and knowledge down the ages of which the west is ignorant.
Ghost Stories
This book contains an introductory page exclusively about the author, his brief life sketch, notable works and achievements along with word meanings of difficult words on each page marked and highlighted in the text for the students’ convenience and easy understanding of the story. Therefore, these books are a must read for all the students, irrespective of their age, education and social background. Even the teachers may find it interesting and can recommend the books for the senior classes as supplementary reading.
Gitanjali
“In his introduction to the 1913 edition of Gitanjali, W.B. Yeats praises Tagore as someone who “writes music for his words… he is so abundant, so spontaneous, so daring in his passion, so full of surprise, because he is doing something which has never seemed strange, unnatural, or in need of defence.”
His description sits aptly for Tagore’s prose poetry in Gitanjali. Translated in English as Song Offerings, the 1912 edition had translations of 53 poems from the original 1910 Bengali edition, along with the translations of his other works. The central theme that pervades the collection of poems is that of devotion to God. The expressions exhibited in these poems range from pangs of separation from God, a sense of yearning and an unconditional waiting, and an absolute ecstasy and joy in being at service to God. Through his poems, Tagore seems to pass on the wisdom he has gained in his journey to becoming one with God, while also acknowledging and being at peace with his own mortality.
Gitanjali or Song Offerings – as it is known in the West – went on to become one of Tagore’s highly regarded works, so much so that he received the Nobel Prize for Literature, largely for the translated version in 1913. The book is part of the UNESCO Collection of Representative Works.
The timeless appeal of the book lies in its call for universal harmony – something that continues to resonate in the world even today.

Great Expectations
Great Expectations reflects on an orphan nicknamed Pip. The plot revolves around his life and depicts the education of Pip. The novel traces the psychological growth of Pip in three stages: Pip spent his childhood in the marshes of Kent, his journey from rural background to the London metropolis, and finally his reluctant reconciliation with false promises and values. Pip meets a wealthy, eccentric spinster, Miss Havisham and her beautiful ward, Estella. He: instantly falls in love with her. Though he is constantly reminded that Estella is heartless, Pip yearns to become a wealthy gentleman in order to be worthy of her. When he learns about the expectations from a benefactor for him to be trained in the gentlemanly arts, he goes to London. A series of events follow, including Estella’s marriage to the brutal nobleman, Bentley Drummle. After many years, Pip encounters Estella in the ruined garden at Satis House. Her husband, Drummle treated her badly, but he is now dead. Pip finds that Estella’s coldness and cruelty have been replaced by a sad kindness. Both Pip and Estella leave the garden hand in hand. Great Expectations was published in 1861 and has not only been adapted into films but has also influenced a number of writers.
