Guru Ravidas
“As the son of a cobbler, Ravidas could not understand the discrimination against the people from his caste. He longed to learn the true meaning of life. He strived to find himself and the purpose of his existence.
He was known for his generosity and compassion. He refused to live on alms and earned an honest living as a shoemaker. He shared whatever he could with people in need, without an ounce of hesitation. Ravidas’ philosophy is a blend of different faiths. He believed there was one god, who was present all around. He found the differentiation between man on the basis of caste and religion baseless. He encouraged his followers, known as Ravidasis, to live in a casteless society.
