They meet many sages and holy men who welcome them and guide them on their way. the sages tell Rama that they are plagued by demons and ogres who destroy their houses, wreck their rituals and prayers and have even killed many of them. They ask him to protect them since, even though in exile, he is their king Sure enough the three encounter the invincible Viradha and then the dangerous Suparnakha Both are defeated, but Suparnakha is no ordinary demoness. She is the sister of Ravana.

Ayodhya Kand is the second book in Valmiki’s Ramayana. It tells the story of Lord Rama’s exile from Ayodhya and the grief that grips, not just his family, but the entire city. In the first part of this book, Ayodhya Kand I, we find out how and why King Dasharatha is forced by Queen Kaikeyi to banish his son Rama. Even though the people condemn her for her cruelty and the broken-hearted king tries to appeal to her better sense, Kaikeyi is unmoved. Determined to protect his father’s honour, Rama accepts the harsh decision and prepares to leave. He is joined by Sita and Lakshmana, who decide to follow him during his exile. We trace the beginning of their journey from Ayodhya, even as the people of the city sink into despair. Ayodhya Kand I continues Valmiki’s story from the first book in the series, Bala Kand, which tells us of Rama’s childhood. It will be followed by Ayodhya Kand II

Valmiki wrote the Ramayana, a poem about Rama of Ayodhya. The narration of the Bhagawat is in the form of a dialogue between Sage Vyasa’s son, Shukadeva, and King Pareekshit, the grandson of Arjuna.

The Bhagawat Purana was composed in the era before Christ but in its present form it is dated between the 6th and 10th centuries AD.

Bheema was the strongman among Pandava’s in Mahabharata. So was Hanuman, the ape in Ramayana. For both, the poets held that their powers were gift of the wind-god, their parent. The two face each other in this story from the Mahabharata. During the Pandavas’ exile in the forest, their wife Draupadi expresses her wish to have a particular flower. Bheema sets out for the mountain on which the flower blossoms. On the way he demonstrates his strength against an elephant. He is however unable to lift the tail of Hanuman who is lying on the way. An interesting encounter follows and in the end Bheema achieves his purpose.
